Argentina is a republic and the second largest country in South America, about 3900 km from north to south and 1400 from east to west. It lies between the Andes in the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the west and south and is bordered by Paraguay and Bolivia in the north, Brazil and Uruguay in the northeast and Chile to the west and south.
Argentina consists of four areas, the plains of the Pampas - the major growing area- as in the middle of the country, the flat-ish oil-rich plateau of Patagonia is the south extending to Tierra del Fuego, the sub-tropical area of the Gran Chaco in the north, and the Andes mountain range along the border with Chile. The climate is mostly temperate, with extremes from subtropical in the north to subpolar in the far south.
